Jolene McIlwain’s writing has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and appears online at New Orleans Review, Cincinnati Review, Prairie Schooner, River Teeth, Prime Number, Atticus Review, and elsewhere. 

Her flash fiction was selected as a finalist for 2018’s Best of the Net and is forthcoming in the 2019 Best Small Fictions Anthology. Her fiction was selected as Glimmer Train’s Top 25 and honorable mention in the New Writers contest as well as semifinalist for Nimrod’s Katherine Anne Porter Prize and American Short Fiction's Short and Short(er) fiction contests. Her non-fiction was a finalist in the Arts & Letters Unclassifiables Contest. 

She's the recipient of an artist opportunity grant from the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council, a Georgia Court faculty scholarship for the Chautauqua Writers Festival, and a merit scholarship in fiction from Tinker Mountain.  

She's worked as a part time lecturer at Duquesne and Chatham Universities where she's taught composition, literary theory and analysis, and scientific etymology. She’s an associate flash fiction editor at jmww and is currently working on a short story collection and novel set in the hills of the Appalachian plateau of Western Pennsylvania. She's represented by The Book Group literary agency.
